What We Do...

Picture
During the 40 week school year, we provide children in food insecure households an extra boost of nutrition: a backpack with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 3 snacks.  We also provide an item to help the family stretch their food budget.  Breakfast includes cereal & milk or oatmeal, lunch might be canned pasta or soup.  An applesauce cup and fruit cup along with 2 vegetable cups are included each week.    Snacks include goldfish, granola bars, snack crackers, and occasionally some cookies.    The extra item for the family includes a full size box of macaroni & cheese, tuna & tuna helper, or a box of spaghetti and sauce.  All items are shelf stable, easily opened, nutritionally balanced and kid approved.

How you can help...

“Like” the Friday Fill-Up Facebook page to stay up to date about immediate or emergency needs, packing dates and fun pictures.

Make a donation.  We are a 501(c)(3) designated non-profit organization.  We can provide receipts upon request.
  • $24 feeds a child for a month
  • $240 feeds a child for the school year
  • $300 feeds all 50 kids for a week
  • $1200 feeds all 50 kids for a month

Groups and individuals can volunteer to help setup, pack, or deliver backpacks.  It is a great team building project that takes about an hour to complete.  Sign up using the link below or contact Martha Hanoian (734)699-3361 to reserve your backpack spot.

Know of an organization who cares about local children in need?  We would love to come and give a presentation about Friday Fill-Up!

Why Rawsonville?

Picture
Rawsonville Elementary school was identified to pilot Friday Fill-Up! In early 2018 due to its high percentage of children who qualify for free or reduced breakfast or lunch.

Rawsonville sits on the boarder of Wayne and Washtenaw counties in what many consider a “food desert’.  The area has a large number of fast food restaurants but very few grocery stores.  The closest grocery store to the school is 4.8 miles away from the school building.

Trinity Episcopal Church is just 4 miles away from Rawsonville Elementary School.

What's Next?

Rawsonville Elementary isn’t the only school in the Van Buren School District with a high percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.  This continues to drive our goal of providing backpacks for any child in the district in need of food.
